Endodontist & lead dentist
Dr. Chaitanya K
BDS, MDS (Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics)
Dr. Chaitanya K is the lead dentist at Tooth District, Koramangala. She holds a BDS, in which she was the university gold medalist in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, and an MDS in that same speciality. Nine years of clinical experience, across root canals and the restorative work that rebuilds a tooth rather than replacing it.
Conservative dentistry and endodontics is three postgraduate years spent on one question: how to keep a natural tooth rather than replace it. Endodontics is the half of it people have heard of, and it is the training behind every root canal done at Tooth District, and the reason most of them finish in a single appointment rather than spread across three. The other half is restorative: inlays and onlays, veneers, bleaching, closing gaps between front teeth, and rebuilding a bite that has worn down. Same speciality, same tooth, the other end of it.

Clinical focus
What she treats most
Conservative dentistry and endodontics, which is saving and rebuilding natural teeth, is the speciality. Tooth District is a general practice, so most of what walks through the door is ordinary dentistry, but this is the work the training was for.
- Root canal treatment
- Single-visit endodontics
- Endodontic retreatment
- Inlays and onlays
- Veneers and esthetic rehabilitation
- Teeth whitening and internal bleaching
- Closing gaps between front teeth
- Crowns and bridges
Root Canal Treatment
A root canal saves a tooth whose nerve has been infected, instead of pulling it. Done under magnification with rotary instruments, most are finished in a single appointment.
Dental Implants
An implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up, a titanium post in the jawbone carrying a crown. It is the only replacement that does not rely on the teeth beside it.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
A wisdom tooth that keeps getting infected, pushes into the tooth in front, or cannot be cleaned properly needs to come out. We X-ray first and tell you exactly which kind of removal yours is.

Questions
About the specialist
What is an endodontist, and why does it matter?
An endodontist is a dentist who has completed a postgraduate specialisation in the inside of the tooth: the pulp, the nerve and the root canal system. It is three additional years spent on one thing: saving teeth that would otherwise be extracted. Most root canals in India are done by general dentists. Having one done by a specialist mainly changes how likely it is that every canal was found and cleaned, which is what decides whether the tooth is still there in fifteen years.
Does Dr. Chaitanya treat patients personally?
Yes. She is the lead dentist at Tooth District and carries out the treatment herself, including every root canal. Patients are not assigned to whichever clinician has a free chair.
What does the gold medal mean?
She was ranked first in the university in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics during her BDS, and was awarded the gold medal for it. She then went on to take her MDS in that same speciality. It is an academic distinction rather than a clinical qualification, since the qualification is the MDS, but it is a fair indication of how she approached the subject long before she specialised in it.
Does she treat anything other than root canals?
A great deal else, and most of it is the same speciality. Conservative dentistry and endodontics is one postgraduate subject, and root canal treatment is only the half of it patients have heard of. The other half is everything that rebuilds a natural tooth instead of replacing it: inlays and onlays, veneers, bleaching including internal bleaching of a single dark tooth, closing gaps between front teeth, and full esthetic rehabilitation of a worn or broken bite. Beyond that, Tooth District is a general and multispecialty practice, so cleanings, fillings, crowns, implants, extractions and children’s dentistry are all part of the work. Where a case genuinely needs a different specialist, we say so.
What languages does she speak?
English, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil, all five of them herself. A diagnosis explained through a third person loses the part that matters, which is the follow-up question the patient would have asked if they had the words for it.
How many years has she been practising?
9 years of clinical practice, with root canal treatment and tooth preservation as the core of it throughout.
