Gums that bleed when you brush
Bleeding is not normal and it is not caused by brushing too hard. It is the first sign of gum inflammation, and at this stage it is completely reversible.
Persistent bad breath
Bacteria living in tartar below the gumline are the most common cause, and no mouthwash reaches them.
Yellow or brown deposits near the gumline
Especially behind the lower front teeth, where saliva glands sit and tartar builds fastest.

Examination and charting
We check every tooth, chart gum pocket depths where needed, and look at the areas you cannot see yourself. You find out what is actually going on, not just that your teeth are dirty.

Ultrasonic scaling
An ultrasonic scaler breaks up hardened tartar above and below the gumline with high-frequency vibration and a water spray. It is pressure and vibration you feel, not pain.

Hand instrumentation where needed
Deposits the ultrasonic tip cannot reach, particularly deeper pockets, are cleared with hand instruments.

Polishing
A polishing paste removes surface stain from tea, coffee and tobacco and leaves the tooth surface smooth, so plaque takes longer to re-attach.

The appointment that prevents the others
Nearly every expensive thing that happens in a dental clinic starts as something that a cleaning and a check-up would have caught.
A cavity found early is a filling. Found late it is a root canal and a crown. Gum inflammation caught early reverses completely in a fortnight. Left for five years it is bone loss, and bone does not come back.
This is the cheapest appointment we offer and the one with the best return. It is also the one people in Bengaluru skip most, because nothing hurts yet.
What a cleaning here includes
Not just the scaler. Every cleaning appointment at Tooth District includes:
- A full examination. Every tooth checked, every existing filling checked, gum pocket depths measured where there is reason to.
- Ultrasonic scaling above and below the gumline.
- Hand instrumentation where the ultrasonic tip cannot reach.

If we find something, you hear about it with the X-ray or the photo in front of you, along with what it will cost and what happens if you leave it. Including, sometimes, that leaving it is a reasonable choice.
What it costs
This is the least expensive appointment on our list, and the one that saves the most. The figure comes after the examination rather than off a price board, because there are two quite different appointments hiding behind the word cleaning.
Routine six-monthly scaling, with the full examination and the polish included, is the ordinary one. If the examination shows established periodontal disease, with deep pockets, bleeding on probing and bone loss visible on X-ray, that needs deep cleaning below the gumline, often split across quadrants and across two appointments. The scaling myth, settled
Somewhere in India a belief took hold that scaling loosens teeth and thins enamel. It is worth dealing with directly, because it costs people their teeth.
An ultrasonic scaler vibrates hardened calculus off the tooth surface. It is not abrasive to enamel. What people notice is that after a heavy cleaning, teeth can feel slightly looser and more sensitive, and the reason is straightforward: the tartar was filling the space where bone used to be, and blocking the exposed root surface. It felt like support. It was actually the thing destroying the support.
Leaving tartar in place to hold loose teeth together is like leaving rust on a pipe because removing it reveals a hole.

After the appointment
You leave with this written down, and a number you can message if anything feels wrong.
- Mild sensitivity to cold for a few days is normal, especially if there was heavy tartar.
- Gums may feel tender and can bleed slightly for a day or two. Keep brushing gently rather than avoiding the area.
- Use a desensitising toothpaste for a week if cold bothers you.
- Start flossing or using interdental brushes from that evening, while the gums are clean.
- Book the next cleaning before you leave. Six months for most people, three to four if you have gum disease.

Teeth Cleaning & Scaling: questions patients ask
Does scaling damage or loosen teeth?
No. This is the most persistent myth in Indian dentistry and it is worth answering properly. Scaling removes hardened deposits from the tooth surface; it does not remove enamel. Teeth can feel slightly loose or more sensitive afterwards because the tartar that was splinting them and blocking the exposed root surface is gone. The tartar was a symptom of bone loss, not the thing holding the teeth in. Left in place it would have caused more.
How much does teeth cleaning cost in Koramangala?
It is the least expensive appointment we offer, and the figure comes after we have looked in your mouth rather than before. Routine six-monthly scaling, with the examination and the polish included, is one thing. Established gum disease needing deep cleaning below the gumline, often across more than one appointment, is another, and quoting that without looking would be guesswork. The one thing we can say in advance is that a cleaning today is always cheaper than what it prevents.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Every six months for most people. Every three to four months if you have been treated for gum disease, smoke, have diabetes, or are wearing braces. If it has been years rather than months, the first appointment simply takes longer.
Is scaling painful?
For a routine cleaning, no. You feel vibration and water rather than pain. If your gums are already inflamed they will be tender, and if there is heavy tartar under the gumline we may use a local anaesthetic for comfort. Nobody should be gritting their teeth through it; tell us and we will numb the area.
Will cleaning make my teeth white?
It removes stain, which often makes teeth look noticeably brighter, but it returns them to your natural shade rather than changing it. If you want teeth lighter than their natural colour, that is whitening, which is a different treatment and is best done after a cleaning rather than instead of one.
My gums bleed when I brush. Should I brush that area less?
The opposite. Bleeding means the gum there is inflamed by plaque, and the way to settle it is to clean it properly, gently but daily. Gums that are left alone bleed more, not less. After a scaling, most bleeding stops within a week of consistent cleaning.
